Ursuline ArtSpace also collaborates with centers, schools, & organizations in the community as an outreach effort to bring art to youth and adults in need.
In 2014, with generous funding from the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland Ministry Endowment Fund, Ursuline ArtSpace was able to extend and enhance its services further into the community to serve vulnerable and at-risk youth and adults throughout Cleveland. Funding from this grant provides art therapy to three organizations:
Renee Jones Empowerment Center
The Renee Jones Empowerment Center (RJEC) is committed to providing services to those with the courage to break the human trafficking cycle. Its programs foster opportunities for those who have been faced with many adverse challenges, such as poverty, homelessness, teen pregnancy, domestic violence, and drug-abuse to advocate for themselves and to improve their quality of life through personal, social, and professional development. Art therapy services provided through ArtSpace’s Outreach Program includes monthly groups working with women survivors of human trafficking, as well at-risk teens as part of the Center’s Project Red Cord. Art therapy at RJEC offers creativity as a source of personal growth and transformation that is strength based, trauma informed, and builds resiliency.
Front Steps Housing and Services
Front Steps Housing and Services offers safe housing and a structured environment to help women and men make the changes in their lives that lead to self-sufficiency and independence. Front Steps Housing and Services serves as a catalyst for social change by supporting residents as they transform their lives and by working towards an end to homelessness. ArtSpace’s Outreach Services has provided a monthly art therapy group on-site to empower positive decision making, self-awareness, and strengthen coping skills through art. ArtSpace is now collaborating with Front Steps Housing and Services on a major art therapy grant awarded to them by The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County. This additional funding will increase ArtSpace group services to every week for Front Steps clients, alumni and community organizations that are serving adults living with homelessness.
L’arche Cleveland is dedicated to making known the gifts of people with developmental disabilities, revealed through mutually transforming relationships. Art therapy services available to the L’arche community through ArtSpace’s Outreach Program includes monthly on-site individual art therapy to promote emotional expression, reduce anxiety, and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of art making.
